I enjoyed how gentle the movie is. For conservative, small town, close-knits society, like India, like China, sexual minorities faced greater challenges and have very limited space to express or embrace themselves.
I specifically like the warm summer filter or light, the gentle tone. The sexual awakening moment and the comforting flows and growth of the boys’ relationship. Symbolically, Anand walking from the grief of his father’s passing as well as the shadow of his lost past-relationship to a brighter and joyful future with Balya. His resistance to the ceremonial rituals to me, is the same as his fighting back to this cluttered, depressing environment to his true nature, gay identity.
I can’t say, this two young men would have a happy ending that small apartment of Mumbai. But I sincerely hope they could breathe better and have a cuddly safe haven in big city.
