Todd Solondz's ``Happiness'' is a film that perplexes its viewers, even those who admire it, because it challenges the ways we attempt to respond to it. Is it a portrait of desperate human sadness? Then why are we laughing? Is it an ironic comedy? Then why its tenderness with these lonely people? Is it about depravity? Yes, but why does it make us suspect, uneasily, that the depraved are only seeking what we all seek, but with a lack of ordinary moral vision? In a film that looks into the abyss of human despair, there is the horrifying suggestion that these characters may not be grotesque exceptions, but may in fact be part of the mainstream of humanity. 以前没看过Todd Solondz的电影，看了此片后兴奋得接连几天看了另外几部他的作品。Welcome to the Dollhouse 欢迎来到玩具屋（1995），Palindromes 回文（2004），Life During Wartime 战争时期的生活（2009，算happiness的续集）。可惜喜爱的程度和年份增长成反比。
I finally finished watching this movie, I wanted to ditch it when I first saw an old and pathetic guy jerking off in the backseat of a car. That is some seriously fucked up shit. Some scenes are so depressing and disturbing. But I have to say it's a great movie. It got me thinking. Cause all those sick, twisted perverts are not so different from us, they are one of us. If they are just portrayed as "weirdos", we can just paint them with one big brush and move on with our lives; but they are not, they are normal people, just like you and me. And we have to live with the fact that deep down inside our hearts, there're something dark and twisted hiding.

他的片子（除了最近的那部）有种很强烈的八九十年代的味道。就是记忆里那时候的人花大浓妆，顶个高高的刘海的那种俗气的感觉。有服装道具布景的关系，有选角的关系（导演真偏爱丑角啊），还有就是用平板的日光和柔光吧。画面的庸俗恰好和本片肥皂剧似的情节呼应，真是太恰当了。
两个多小时的电影一点不觉得长，一直在大笑或扑哧中度过，大概极端符合我的恶趣味吧。让我笑得如此会心的怕只有Luis Buñuel的某些电影了吧。尤其喜欢那个爱提问题的小男孩，每次都犹犹豫豫但说的话又很赤裸。娈童癖的爸爸这个演员（Dylan Baker）选的太好了，比“战争时期的生活”里那个逼真多了，那种掩饰不掉的欲望尽在眼底。那个宅男（Philip Seymour Hoffman饰）也演得特别好。他演过的角色多少有些这种木讷无趣的感觉，但我觉得他其实挺性感的（如果不那么胖的话）。
不想多说情节，自己看吧（我看了已经有些时候了，具体也记不了那么多，只是常常回想起一些有趣的片段还是忍俊不住）。本片剧本相当精彩，算黑色幽默吧，是一种精确拿捏的幽默，有点变态，有点正经，多一分则太俗，少一分则不好笑。各种对比和节奏恰到好处。画面不暴露不暴力，但有很强的心理暗示，会让人有很多联想。
这个片子大家都可以看，我不觉得有适不适合看的问题，除了特别保守顽固的人。
资本主义现实主义并不是犬儒主义。身处其中的每一个个体都是其中的一环，既在景观中又是景观自身。
在影片的开始，小男孩向父亲坦白：自己是班级里唯一一个不能“come”的男孩。“you'll come one day ”父亲这样鼓励着孩子。
社会中的我们就是这样被景观鼓励着，也作为景观鼓励着他人。我们欲望着他人，也无意中成为他人的欲望对象。
在这种交叉的欲望中，我们总是无法完成交换，即便是完成了的交换，也会有新的景观勾引起新的欲望，“剩余”一直存在，他甚至形成了一种犯罪的激情。
我们全然忘记了那个永远缺失的菲勒斯能指已经被装进了塑料袋。是的，正是因为我们交出了“菲勒斯”我们才一道建立了景观，我们才能互相鼓励着彼此的欲望。
小男孩的父亲作为鸡JIAN犯被起诉以后。小男孩在与父亲的最后一次谈话中完成了俄狄浦斯情节:
“would you like to fxxk me ?
no …I'd jerk off instead"。
父亲作为鸡jian犯丧失了全部的光环。父亲被弑杀的同时给小男孩指出了社会存在的边界，迫使他交出了菲勒斯能指。于是小男孩成为景观社会的一分子，加入到互相鼓励欲望的序列中，并且他终于come了。
这是资本主义的悖论，也是我们每个人的悲剧。
