We had no overt agenda with this project. I had a sense of what it might be, and I knew that part of it was always going to be the end of his life.
Is it a father-son story? I don’t think so. Is it about what it is to be an artist? I don’t know. Maybe. Is it a contemplation of death? I think it’s kind of turning into that, and not in a morose way, but just in a “we’re here, we do stuff, and we’re gone.”
And, I love him for what he did. I love him for what he didn’t do.
这是一部关于罗伯特·唐尼父子的纪录片,更准确地说是记录了老罗伯特(Sr.)去世前和小罗伯特(Jr.)共同拍摄制作纪录片的过程。关于父亲的生平,他与电影,与朋友的回忆和讲述,以及父子之间的影响。
这部片子的剪辑方式很有趣,大约是因为Sr.是一位导演,他对片子的掌控欲让他有自己想拍摄的东西,也有自己的剪辑方式,同时Jr.的团队又在记录他的调度和剪辑,还有关于如何拍摄的讨论和电话采访,以及最后Sr.离开后Jr.对这部片子的处理和想法…是一部非常非常特别的一次纪录片的体验。
很多人了解熟知Jr.也主要是通过钢铁侠这个角色吧,确实是炙手可热的明星,但他年轻时候的疯癫人生也是非常惊人,这其中他父亲对他的影响是巨大的。也因此在Sr.的讲述中,我们得以窥见他的疯狂和天分,也能感受到他这一生中的对错与得失。我一直认为人是很复杂的动物,当一个具有巨大掌控力和影响力的老人得了帕金森,去用最后的精力去剪辑关于自己的片子的时候,好像是可以见到他这一生的感悟的。他的错误他可以坦诚的讲述,道歉,关于爱恨的回忆等等…真的很妙,也会让人开阔一些。
最后的结尾是最妙的,选了Sr.的作品里的一小段,那些荒谬的对白和风格代表了Sr.的个人特色,那些真诚的期待也代表了他的希冀。笑着笑着就又觉得有点感动,我想这就是Sr.这一生所谓的自成一格吧。
